Students, families, staff and invited guests gathered for the special event, which showcased the work of the young writers through reciting their poems out loud.

The evening was attended by the Mayor of Basingstoke and Deane Cllr Jacky Tustain and Hampshire Poet Laureate, Mr. Damian Kelly-Basher who joined the celebrations as VIP guests and praised the creativity and talent on display.

The published students shared poems exploring a wide range of themes, from future aspirations to loss of loved ones, demonstrating the strength of literary talent across the school.

Speaking at the event, the Mayor said: "It has been a privilege to attend this evening and celebrate the achievements of these young people. To have 20 students published is a fantastic achievement for both the students and the school, and they should all be immensely proud."

The Hampshire Poet Laureate added: "Poetry gives young people a powerful way to express themselves and make sense of the world around them. It was great to see TBCS students sharing creative writing that was full of imagination, honesty and skill."

For many students, seeing their work published for the first time was a memorable moment.

One student said: "When I found out my poem had been selected for publication, I couldn't believe it. Reading it in front of my family, friends, the Mayor and Poet Laureate was nerve-racking but exciting. It's made me feel much more confident about my writing and inspired me to keep creating."

Mrs Poulton, Acting Headteacher said: "We are incredibly proud of all 20 students whose work has been published. This evening was about celebrating their achievement and recognising their courage in performing publicly. The support from our families and distinguished guests has made the event truly special."

Parents and guests praised the confidence of the young writers, with many describing the evening as inspiring and uplifting. Following the success of the inaugural event, the school hopes to make the Poetry Evening an annual celebration of student creativity and literary achievement.
