School Meals
The options
Students are able to bring their own packed lunch if they prefer or purchase a range of items from the school canteen.
The Blue Coat School Basingstoke works with Innovate to provide a range of catering options during the school day. Every day, students can enjoy freshly prepared food packed with flavour, variety, and choice – whether grabbing something quickly or sitting down to enjoy a hot meal with friends.
- Breakfast 8am to 8.30am served in the dining room – items will vary daily.
- Morning break 10.45 to 11.05 served in the dining room, main hall and StreetVibes. Range of hot and cold snacks and drinks.
- Lunch break 12.45 to 13.15
Main dining room – this is the main service area and offers the following options:
- Main meals (meat and vegetarian options)
- 'Grab and go' items including baguettes, paninis, burritos and salads to name a few
- Drinks, cold desserts, biscuits and homebakes
Main Hall hatch – this smaller service area offers:
- “Bowled over” menu item – usually pasta, noodle or rice pot with topping
- Jacket potatoes with toppings
- Sandwiches, drinks, cold desserts, biscuits and homebakes

Off the main dining room, StreetVibes brings a taste of the high street into the school restaurant, with bold flavours and a build-your-own style that puts students in charge. It’s all about choice, flavour and fun! The idea stays simple every time:
- CHOOSE IT – pick a base, whether its rice, noodles or salad, we have a variety of bases to create the foundations of a delicious dish.
- ADD IT – add a protein such as grilled chicken, savoury beef or plant-based alternatives.
- TOP IT – personalise with toppings such as chilli or cool mayo.
Once students have purchased food they can sit in either the dining room or the main hall to eat, or go outside if they prefer.

Allergen Safety
All the dishes include full ingredient and allergen information, and all pre-packaged items are clearly labelled with the 14 major allergens. An allergen matrix is available at the serving point so students can check choices quickly and easily.
There are strict procedures in place to prevent cross-contamination, ensuring food is prepared safely. For anyone requiring more information or support, our friendly Allergen Buddies are always on hand to answer questions.
Payment for school meals
All payments for the canteen should be done using Scopay as we do not have the facility for cash payments. If you require a link code for Scopay please e-mail finance@tbcs.sfet.org.uk
Students use their fingerprint at the tills to speed up the service. We require parental consent for this (further information is given in the biometric information sheet). Permission is provided using the Data collection form on admission to the school, however if consent is not given, we will provide an alternative method of using the till. Fingerprint registration does not affect the payment system at all.
Free school meals
A free meal allowance of £2.90 is available to students whose parents are in receipt of specific benefits. If eligible, the allowance is added automatically to the student’s account, so meals can be chosen just like everyone else — no separate queue, no extra steps at the till. The allowance can be used on any items from the canteen. Accounts can also be topped up using Scopay. To apply for free meals please use the eligibility checker at www.cloudforedu.org.uk/ofsm/hants
